2026-07-21T17:36:09+00:00 Copyright (c) 2026 Journal of Research Findings https://jsrd.unilag.edu.ng/index.php/IUCDS/article/view/2906 FINANCIAL MARKET INSTRUMENTS AND ECONOMIC GROWTH IN GHANA 2026-07-21T17:58:43+00:00 Akanbi Mudasiru Ilupeju ailupeju@unilag.edu.ng Asaanbil Ndego Ndebang AZURE ailupeju@unilag.edu.ng
This study interrogates the relationship between financial market instruments and economic growth for Ghana, relying on time series economic dataset spanning from 1980 to 2020, and using economic and financial data gleaned from World development indicators of the World Bank and from the Central Bank of Ghana. Econometrically, Augmented Dicky-Fuller (ADF), Johansen cointegration test and error correction model (ECM) was used for the analysis. Study findings show that, there is statistically significant association between financial market instrument and economic growth in Ghana. Further, the relationship between financial market instruments and growth of Ghana’s financial sector is insignificant. We recommend amongst others, the necessity for state actors to create enabling environment for macroeconomic fundamentals to strive, conso-lidate gains and continue reforms geared towards deepening the financial space to enhance domestic economic activities, investment, and long-term economic health of the nation.

2026-07-21T17:37:48+00:00 Copyright (c) 2026 Journal of Research Findings https://jsrd.unilag.edu.ng/index.php/IUCDS/article/view/2905 CONTRAINTES DE RECHERCHE UNIVERSITAIRE DANS LA TRADUCTION DES LOIS D’INTEGRATION AU GHANA 2026-07-21T17:58:43+00:00 Akanbi Mudasiru Ilupeju ailupeju@unilag.edu.ng Sampson AWAFO awafosampson@gmail.com
La traduction des lois d'intégration joue un rôle crucial pour faciliter la compréhension et le respect des réglementations juridiques parmi les migrants et les locuteurs non natifs résidant dans les pays d'accueil. Through a critical analysis of the complex interplay of political, economic, and social factors, this study explores the diverse manifestations, causes, and consequences of terrorism on the continent during the 20th century. Focusing on Nigeria and Somalia as case studies, this research identifies state weakness as a primary factor contributing to terrorism and examines how this vulnerability has been exploited by terrorists and external actors. The study argues that state weakness is not only a consequence of terrorism but also a contributing factor, perpetuating a vicious cycle of violence and instability. By highlighting the brutal nature of terrorism and its egregious human rights violations, this paper underscores the importance of recognizing the dignity of human life, even in death. Situated within the context of conflict and conflict resolution in Africa, this study aims to contribute to a nuanced understanding of terrorism, one that acknowledges the intricate interplay of historical, political, economic, and social factors that shape this complex phenomenon. The findings of this research have significant implications for policymakers, practitioners, and scholars seeking to address the complex challenges of terrorism, state weakness, and human rights violations in Africa.

2026-07-21T17:41:09+00:00 Copyright (c) 2026 Journal of Research Findings https://jsrd.unilag.edu.ng/index.php/IUCDS/article/view/2902 A SOCIOLINGUISTIC STUDY OF CODE-SWITCHING IN THE PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH OF GHANA: A CASE STUDY OF TESHIE DISTRICT 2026-07-21T17:58:43+00:00 Akanbi Mudasiru Ilupeju ailupeju@unilag.edu.ng Rebecca Atchoi AKPANGLO-NARTEY beckdoku2002@gmail.com
This study investigated the sociolinguistic act of code-switching in congregations of the Teshie District of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana. It determined the types of code-switching used and established the patterns and frequency of code-switching during sermons, prayers, and announcements. It also identified the factors that influence code-switching as well as the roles of age, gender, and education in code-switching during sermons, prayers, announcements. The study involved 9 Presbyterian Ministers and 12 church members from 3 Presbyterian churches in the Teshie District. The research methodology was purely qualitative which deployed instruments such as interview, observation and audio recordings of natural sermons, prayers and announcements. The results of the study showed that the ministers use inter-sentential, intra-sentential and tag-switching as the three main types of code-switching. Inter-sentential code-switching was the most frequently used, followed by intra-sentential code-switching and then tag switching. The study found out that the overarching factor that influences the switching of languages during preaching, prayers or announcements is the desire to build and deepen the understanding of the audience. Other factors that influenced code-switching between mother tongue languages such as Ga or Twi and English language was the need to create intimacy, sense of belonging and cultural rootedness among the audience. The study establishes that age, gender and educational level of the congregation influence code-switching during sermons, prayers and announcements.

2026-07-21T17:41:37+00:00 Copyright (c) 2026 Journal of Research Findings https://jsrd.unilag.edu.ng/index.php/IUCDS/article/view/2901 EXPLORING GEN Z'S LINGUISTIC PRACTICES: A DISCOURSE ANALYSIS OF EMERGING DIALECTS IN A MULTILINGUAL SOCIETY 2026-07-21T17:58:43+00:00 Akanbi Mudasiru Ilupeju ailupeju@unilag.edu.ng Babatunji ADEPOJU badepoju@unilag.edu.ng Yewande NTEKIM-REX yntekimrex@unilag.edu.ng
This study explores the language of Generation Zoomers (Gen Z) as emerging dialects in a multilingual society – Lagos, Nigeria. With the rapid changes in communication styles driven by social media, this research investigates how the distinct linguistic patterns of Gen Z reflect their socio-cultural identities. Data were collected from 140 final-year students across two higher institutions (a university and a college of technology) in Lagos using classroom-based slang lists, semi-structured interviews and WhatsApp chat verification. The collected expressions were thematically categorised and analysed for their semantic features, morphological processes (coinage, clipping, blending, reduplication, borrowing, acronyms, and semantic shift), and sociolinguistic functions, drawing on concepts from Interactional Sociolinguistics to interpret how these expressions operate in social interaction. The study identifies and categorises over 150 expressions across fifteen domains of student life, including intelligence, examination practices, money, relationships, and moral conduct. The findings reveal that Gen Z linguistic practices are broader and more complex than slang, encompassing a range of word-formation processes and serving as markers of identity, in-group solidarity, and social hierarchy. The study is restricted to student-related activities; other societal activities are reserved for future investigation. The findings suggest that Gen Z language – a purely human and non-instinctive method of communicating ideas, emotions, and desires using a system of voluntarily produced symbols – serves as a marker of identity and impacts the dynamics of multilingual interaction in contemporary society. The paper argues that these linguistic patterns demonstrate evidence of evolving into an emerging dialect within Nigerian English.

2026-07-21T17:42:39+00:00 Copyright (c) 2026 Journal of Research Findings https://jsrd.unilag.edu.ng/index.php/IUCDS/article/view/2908 Journal of Research Findings/Revue des Résultats de Recherche, Vol. 6, September, 2026 2026-07-21T17:58:43+00:00 Akanbi Mudasiru Ilupeju ailupeju@unilag.edu.ng
JoReFi/ReReRe is a scientific journal.
